On the Via Podiensis via Rocamadour
Formerly known as Via Podiensis, the Chemin du Puy is the most visited and well-known way to walk your way to Saint James of Compostela. From Figeac, you can make a 280km detour to visit the medieval city of Rocamadour, and its perched village and famous sanctuary.
Rocamadour is well-known because of the numerous pilgrimages to the black Virgin. Along your way, you will go through the causse de Gramat. These dry and stony lands hides a network of amazing caves, such as the Padirac Abyss or thePech Merle caves.
To make a stop on your way to Saint James of Compostela, stop by the hotel restaurant La Garissade. You will discover many different fabulous landscapes : volcanic soils, wild lands, green valleys...
After a well-deserved rest at your hotel in Labastide-Murat, you will get back on track and go through the natural regional park of Causses du Quercy. Between the high cliffs of causse, you will find deep valleys where rivers like the Célé meands...
Profiting from the rich and diverse nature around, the Lot has many regional specialties, maybe you will taste truffle or discover saffron harvest, or both ? If you like to you can also assist a plum distillation, take part in the nuts pressing process or the production of foie gras. The hotel restaurant la Garissade is certified « Rando accueil » and will be your perfect spot to make a break on your way to Saint James of Compostela !
La Garissade is my favorite place to make a stop between Paris and the south. Every year, since 13 years now, it's the same friendly welcome, same original and gourmet food... Always a pleasure.
